Outfit: Rockin' Hoorn

8 lovely comments
After visiting the festival in Kaunitz, we headed for a rock 'n roll get together in the beautiful town of Hoorn. I had never been to this cute festival before, but I have to say it was lovely! There were a lot of great retro bands performing in several cafes and bars in Hoorn. The setting was quite intimate which contributed to an authentic vintage vibe, which I sometimes tend to miss at the bigger festivals.  I started of with wearing a 40s inspired look (for the outdoors activities) that I could easily transform into a more 50s kind of style. When the sun went down and we all cramped up inside I lost the blazer and beret, put the scarf in my hair and buttoned up the blouse; ét voila.... from forties to fifties in a jiffy.

Personal, thrifted&new: Market hauls

5 lovely comments
We have been cruising through several flea markets, vintage events and thrift stores over the past few weeks. Primarily to score some home decorations, like mirrors and lamps. But of course I always keep my eyes open for other vintage treasury in between! I have to say we have not been as thrifty lately as we were before an whenever I go thrifting of vintage shopping, I feel like I am a bit 'reserved'. Like I said in a post before, I now go looking for more specific items to enrich my vintage treasury, instead of just buying everything I love. Now this is not a negative thing at all of course! For starters it is more economical and it allows me to enjoy what I do buy even more. Have any of you vintage shopping lovelies encounter this 'change' of shop-wise thinking?

A silver rose Marnix got me

I always love these crystal 50s necklaces (L)

A lovely silk 'Belle Epoque' scarf

Silver pocket mirror

Adorable 1940s inspired sunnies

And last but not least; these very comfortable leather kittens from Bleyer.
I tried them on at the vintage fair in Hoorn and ended up regretting not buying them.
Fortunately I got to order them through Rock&Roll kleding!

And I am glad I did... I needed a vintage inspired pair of heels
that are a bit more comfy and less high.

Outfit: Black Beauty

In a city filled with ancient gorgeousness, there is little time to go shopping and to be honest; I didn't quite feel like it either. But when a vintage lover as myself passes a little second hand market, one has to have a look. I grabbed this divine black dress and gorgeous leather bag for a total of 10 euros from this weirdish vintage booth in Trastevere. It was love at first sight and I had to wear the dress immediately haha.... These pictures were shot at the Vittorio Emanuele museum... where I was dancing around the white marble floors, while the soldiers in the back were not moving an inch haha. These pictures where shot our last day in Rome. Ahhhh how I did not want to go.... *sweet memories*

New in: Beautiful Greens

The Emerald

Sweet Spring

Olive Brocade

Some details......

Meet three of my latest vintage darlings... all purchased at Episode stores. I don't know what it is, but I have been loving green over the last few months. The first dress is a classic fifties taffeta beauty with a beautiful bodice. Don't you just adore those pintucks? I can already see this dress being paired with a gorgeous stole, some pretty heals and a fitting vintage do (L) such love.....

The second dress is a clean fifties shaped kitten with a matching bolero. When I was trying this set on, random people in the store encouraged me to buy it. How could I refuse for a mere 29 euros....  I love the cute subtle print. I so feel like putting some minty green heels underneath this baby and strut about town!

Third but not least is this narrow fitted early sixties beau... At first I didn't pick this dress from the rack with antique beauties, it looked dull and shapeless. But when I roamed through all those ancient beauties for the second time, I started to wonder what the collar would look like once I tried it on.... BINGO! This dress was so so SO much more gorgeous on a body then it was on the hanger.... It goes without saying, and I am glad I reminded myself of this, never let a dress go unfitted even if it peeks your interest in the slightest!

Outfit: Piazza Navona

Time to step back a few weeks and share one of the final outfits I wore in Rome. This was a hot day as you can probably imagine.... and even though the weather has been great here in The Netherlands, there is nothing like Italian sunshine. Staring at these holiday snaps makes me think about the lovely care free times we had.... Today I am a tad sad though. I just read that Charlie, the oh so masculine feline accompanying the ILV ladies at their headquarters, passed away.... I loved Charlie and the certain 'je ne sais qoui' he brought to the ILV boutique and I am certain he will be missed by many. My condolences and love dear ILV galls and may Charlie rest in kitty heaven.
Oooh how sadness like this makes me think about all the blessings I have in life, like my two furry darlings.... Ill probably cuddle them to pieces when I get home tonight. How about you dears? Got some special animal loves to think about on a day like today?

Hmmm.... anyways, I hope you will enjoy these sunny pictures. I sometimes feel a bit conscious showing holiday snaps, since I hardly wear make-up on vacation and of course I see that hahaha.... *hello woman hello* Staying right in the center of a gorgeous city like Rome was such a treat. Piazza Navona was only 2 minutes from our apartment, which was great because we were able to visit the popular square in the morning before it became crowded with other tourists. I wore a top I just bought at H&M and paired it with and easy going cotton skirt I thrifted in Naarden.

For out visit to the Strassenkreuzer festival in Kaunitz-Verl, I wanted to wear something 'different.' The difference being I didn't want to be too much of a Fifties Darling that day. So I put together this early sixties inspired look instead and off we went to drift away on a see of fifties galore. We had a marvelous time, as you could see in my previous post about the festival. The hotel where we stayed at (Ringhotel Appelbaum) was splendid as well. In between having a rock 'n rolling good time, we got to enjoy some lovely foods and drinks (champagne breakfast inlcuded) and the hotel spa (LOVE Turkish steam baths!)

Dress: 60s vintage (Episode)
Blazer: vintage
Shoes: Asos
Belt: thrifted
Gloves: thrifted
Hat: vintage (Giensch)
Brooch: vintage (Giensch)

Tights: Bonnie Doon - but I would absolutely NOT recommend buying these! The seam looked like it was painted on with a marker by someone who lost their sense of sight two decades ago.... and it even 'resolved' after wearing these tights for a few hours. Big tight FAIL!
