New in: Gorgeous 1940s coat

Hello my dears! I wish you all a very Happy New year! <3

As I stated on Facebook a few days ago, it has been a rough year for me and my family. We have been through many scares and we had to hold or breaths much too often, but fortunately everything seems to be going for the better. It is very hard to continue your every day life when your mind is somewhere else, let alone run a blog properly in between all that. I could not have done it without you, my dear followers, and I sincerely hope you will bare with me for yet another year of vintage tids and bits! My love goes out to all of you and I hope the new year will bring you everything you wish for.

For this first blog post, I wanted to show you guys this amazing 40s winter coat I bought (Episode) a couple of weeks ago. I love the wide skirt of the coat and the army green collar is to die for. It has not yet been cold enough for this beauty here in Holland, but I will make sure to take her out as soon as proper winter weather has hit us! (Sorry for the vague pictures, my camera is still dying and I have yet to save up for a new one haha)

New in: Old Rose

Hmmmm would it not be ever so lovely if we could all just walk around in our Sundays best, every day of the week... It sometimes saddens me we do not get to wear our vintage prettiness that much, in our modern casual an practical world. But hey, we are never to old to play a bit of dress up every once in a while. One of my latest (yet another Episode) finds oozes 'dress-up' to me. It reminds me of one of those fairy tale dresses I used to wear when I was reenacting my childhood dreams as wee little me. I reckon it's the combination of the tulle like overlay and peachy pink lining.... Oh darling prince charming of mine, do take me to a ball some time!

New in: B-day pressy time!

The 25th of July was a splendid day... as you can see in this previous post I celebrated my 26th b-day in La France with my love and family. I feel so grateful to be able to spend time with my family and friend. Ever since my dad got sick in December I tend to appreciate the small stuff more. Especially being with loved ones, which we should never take for granted. But of course, I love pretty stuff as well and pretty presents even more hihi.I have been wanting to show you the loveliness I got for my birthday; so here they it is!

Personal, thrifted&new: Market hauls

We have been cruising through several flea markets, vintage events and thrift stores over the past few weeks. Primarily to score some home decorations, like mirrors and lamps. But of course I always keep my eyes open for other vintage treasury in between! I have to say we have not been as thrifty lately as we were before an whenever I go thrifting of vintage shopping, I feel like I am a bit 'reserved'. Like I said in a post before, I now go looking for more specific items to enrich my vintage treasury, instead of just buying everything I love. Now this is not a negative thing at all of course! For starters it is more economical and it allows me to enjoy what I do buy even more. Have any of you vintage shopping lovelies encounter this 'change' of shop-wise thinking?

Some details......

Meet three of my latest vintage darlings... all purchased at Episode stores. I don't know what it is, but I have been loving green over the last few months. The first dress is a classic fifties taffeta beauty with a beautiful bodice. Don't you just adore those pintucks? I can already see this dress being paired with a gorgeous stole, some pretty heals and a fitting vintage do (L) such love.....

The second dress is a clean fifties shaped kitten with a matching bolero. When I was trying this set on, random people in the store encouraged me to buy it. How could I refuse for a mere 29 euros....  I love the cute subtle print. I so feel like putting some minty green heels underneath this baby and strut about town!

Third but not least is this narrow fitted early sixties beau... At first I didn't pick this dress from the rack with antique beauties, it looked dull and shapeless. But when I roamed through all those ancient beauties for the second time, I started to wonder what the collar would look like once I tried it on.... BINGO! This dress was so so SO much more gorgeous on a body then it was on the hanger.... It goes without saying, and I am glad I reminded myself of this, never let a dress go unfitted even if it peeks your interest in the slightest!

New in: The best find ever (IJHALLEN Haul)

It was quite some time ago since I last visited the Ijhallen in Amsterdam. As a matter of fact, it was *researches* September 2011 we went there and came back home hugely disappointed. Last weekend, friends of ours made their way to the old Amsterdam harbor where the Ijhallen are located and asked us to join. We figured we would give it another go and off we went..... this time however we came back thrilled and happy. It was fan-tas-tic! We enjoyed the sunshine, hamburgers, poffertjes (Dutch delicacy), each others company and some healthy competition. All while scavenging through piles of.... anything and everything, looking to call someone else's trash our treasures.

Our men started of by challenging each other to find to most ridiculous, offensive, disgusting and/or off putting beer glass they could find. This turned out to be a hilarious competition, having to dig through boxes of old glass work and even worse... ask the sales person how much they wanted for it. I am proud to say my husband managed to find one of the most offensive pieces of glass work I have ever seen..... why would people even make this.... or want this in their house!? (Seriously, anyone.... any takers?)

Not being a participant in this competition gave me all the time I needed to find those hidden gems. I started off pretty good with finding a gorgeous eggshell colored linen blazer. I had been craving a linen blazer to go on top of circle skirts (ergo; with that New Look fit) for the spring/summer season. I own a lot of woolen winter-y blazers but not too many lighter versions. So this was a great find for 3 euros. I will be showing the blazer later on... The second lovely treasure I took home was this amazing fifties hat in a old rose color. I love the way it fits my head and the simplicity of the design. The hat was being sold by two adorable gents who probably witnessed this hat actually being worn in the 1950s. I thought they were too cute to be true, they were happy to see the hat prolong it's life... a great deal for 5 euros I'd say!

So my last, but definitely not least find of the day literally came to me. As the market was reaching it's end, we were in a bit of a hurry to finish of seeing all the stalls. Tip: The market at the Ijhallen is HUGE, so be there early enough if you want to see everything! While fast pacing through the last of the market, I spotted a gorgeous magenta piece of 'something' on the side of a clothing booth. When I walked towards it, I must have bumped into the booth because the 'something' fell into my hands. When I grabbed the piece of cloth to check out what it was, I gasped. Here I was, standing with a GORGEOUS ankle length 1930s dress in perfect (never worn) condition. I couldn't believe my eyes.... finding cute vintage, mostly from the 60s-80s, at these markets does occasionally happen. But stumbling upon the most stunning thirties dress in the most impeccable condition is a dream come true! The divine color made this find even more amazing.... and the fact that I estimated it to be my size (which it is YES).... well do I even need to elaborate on the thrill I felt haha. I'm pretty sure you darlings can imagine the excitement. Which leads me to the part; 'How much do you want for this dress?'

"Ehmmmmm for you.... 4 euros."

And this is where I died.

Hihi I'm kidding of course, but I am pretty sure my heart skipped a beat of two. I didn't know how fast I could reach for my coins and I quickly handed them over to the seller. I swiftly rolled up the dress and prepared to make a run for it, in case the seller was temporarily struck with insanity and he would all of a sudden realize he bestowed a treasure upon me for a fraction of its worth.... *run Forrest RUN - Fly you Fools - Going going GONE* When we got home, the first thing I did was try this gorgeousness on and she fits me perfectly. The button closure on the back is a bit short, so getting into the dress is a bit of a challenge but I couldn't care less. This is LOVE!
