Thrifted: Sparklin' 1920s

I still owe you dears a post on what I thrifted in England! Now I primarily spend money on foods & drinks in the UK, so there is little to show... quantity wise that is...... but when it comes do quality, my oh my did I stumble upon yet another pearl. In a little charity shop that supports cancer research I came across this beautiful twenties inspired cocktail dress. It has the comfort of a modern dress, but the look of a true roaring gem (well, a little bit more fitted in the waist). I can NOT wait to take this beauty out..... I think I will pair her with a beautiful stole and pearls a galore...

Have I been neglecting you or what? To be honest, I have been having difficulties with my camera. It does not seem to focus properly anymore which makes taking good pictures very difficult. Now I don't work with sponsors in general, but now would be the time for a camera making company to step up haha. Or might any of you dears have a good tip on a new camera (I have a Canon 450D now and a small upgrade would be nice, but nothing too expensive)?

Anyways, as you kittens might have seen on Facebook I went to visit one of the biggest vintage collectors fairs last weekend. Here are some more detailed pictures of some goody-good vintage treasury I came upon.... Saved the best for last...

For some reason it caught my eye in between the THOUSANDS of antique goodies.....
This amazing (golden?) locket from 1848!

It is quite heavy and big... On the inside inscribed with the following text.... (I added the kitty haha)

What a priced possession will this be.... the salesman really wanted me to have it, so he gave me
a very good deal (28 euros) as I reckon it is either gold or gold plated....

I am very curious to know about lockets such as these. Any of you beauties might have an idea weather it was custom to give a woman (?) a locket for her 20th birthday mid 19th century? Or maybe someone can link me some literature on the subject? I would love to learn more about pieces like this!

Personal, thrifted&new: Market hauls

We have been cruising through several flea markets, vintage events and thrift stores over the past few weeks. Primarily to score some home decorations, like mirrors and lamps. But of course I always keep my eyes open for other vintage treasury in between! I have to say we have not been as thrifty lately as we were before an whenever I go thrifting of vintage shopping, I feel like I am a bit 'reserved'. Like I said in a post before, I now go looking for more specific items to enrich my vintage treasury, instead of just buying everything I love. Now this is not a negative thing at all of course! For starters it is more economical and it allows me to enjoy what I do buy even more. Have any of you vintage shopping lovelies encounter this 'change' of shop-wise thinking?

And I am glad I did... I needed a vintage inspired pair of heels
that are a bit more comfy and less high.

Thrifted: Let's do an 80s look

I have told you guys about my favorite thrift store many times before. And I have to say, discovering that little shop in Maarssen has been the gift that keeps on giving. The other day I went for a quicky-thrift and found myself a lovely set for less than 10 euros! I love the colors in this eighties dress so much! Instead of going for a 'save' colored belt, I figured a pop of yellow would be even more fun! I can't wait to take this outfit out and about.

Thrifted: Linnen and leather

So here is what I thrifted at thrift store De Kringloper in Naarden!

This lovely linnen blazer from GAP. It fit's very well, although it looks a bit shabby on the picture (the manequin is only a size 6 haha and I am a 10/12 at least.) I like the boyfriend-ish look and the lovely shade of yellow in this jacket. I'm going to have so much fun wearing it for only € 6,50

Thrifted: A latest haul

We went on a thrift this weekend (kringloop Zeist) and I have to say I found some lovely things! I had been looking for a new watch for a while, since the one I got for my last birthday is already starting to loose it's color. Which is a bummer, but hey at least I found a lovely new specimen to tell me what time it is hihi.... Anyways, let me show you what else I found!

Thrifted; Old rose jacket

I love this pink jacket! It has a narrow waist and accentuated shoulders; very fortie-ish I'd say.... I found it for 4 euro's in my favorite thrift store De Sirkel. Now let's figure out how to wear this darling. Any ideas kittens?

Two birds with one thriftstore

Have I ever told you kittens how much I love thrifting....? Of course I have! Well let me add yet another marvelous thrifty story I most recently experienced. It all happened in Maarssen where one of my favorite thrift stores (De Sirkel) is located. I always try to enter a thrift store empty minded, expecting too much often leads to disappointment. Marnix and me were on the lookout for a few small household items and we quickly succeeded in finding them. By the time we reached the cash register I managed to find myself two pairs of footwear, both fulfilling previous footwear related wishes....

The All Stars

For my job at Scotch&Soda, I have to wear closed shoes. Which can be quite limiting during those hot summer days. The only type of shoes I endure for work (where I stand and walk all day) during the summer are All Stars. So I have been browsing for a new pair over the last few weeks. But I just find it hard to spend 60/70 euros on a pair of relatively 'simple' sneakers haha. At the Sirkel I ran into these black high tops. Now I prefer the lower version, but I do like black and they are in very good condition. Of course I took them home for 5 euros. I'm sure I will eventually buy the Ox Bloods I really want, but then at least I can say I spend 65 euros on two pairs of All Stars hihi. A great find!

The Cinderella Skates

With the heavy winter weather hitting the Netherlands, everyone has been high on what we call 'Skating Fever.' As soon as frost hit the waters for a some good nights in a row, we Dutchies hit the ice! My darling already bought himself some black Vikings in December. But I had my mind set on some cute white retro figure skates. I have to say I almost forget about finding skates completely, untill I ran into a rack filled with skated. That is where I find these gorgeous leather darlings... I just love how they look, they're in good shapen and actually quite comfortable as well. Of course they went home with me for 5 euros!

I feel so lucky running into beautiful pieces every time I go there.... but finding an item from a high street designer label was the first time for me! The flea market haul

Oh how I just live for the thrift... or as I'd like to call it 'the treasure hunt.' You can wake me up for a good flea market at all times! I have to admit, I am picky... most flea markets I find to be boring, or even disappointing. But fortunately, a véry good fleamarket is held montly in my town. I am so happy with the beautiful goodies I found the other day at the Vechtsebanen flea market in Utrecht. I hardly ever find so many pretty things in one day! Do you? Let me run you through the treasures I brought home.

The thrift challenge

Those of you following FD on Twitter and/or Facebook already knew I challenged myself to thrift an entire vintage inspired look in one day. To do so, I went to my favourite thrift store last monday. I have to admit that I was not sure wether I'd succeed... Finding pretty things while thrifting all depends on what they have, so I knew I'd had to be lucky...

And lucky I was! I found a very pretty 30s inspired floral dress which was going to be the base of my look. After carefully searching through every singel piece in the shop (find tips&trics on how to thrift here) and I ended up only missing out on a pair of shoes. There was just nothing there to fit the look (and my feet haha.)  But I am very happy with final result... and here it is; my one-day-one-shop-all-thrifted-vintage-inspired look. What do you think darlings?
